Tillie looks normal. In fact, like most Jack Russells, Tillie's energetic, smart, and unquestionably cute. Like all dogs, she'll do anything for a treat or a good walk. Not to mention she has mastered a secretive technique to digging up holes in her garden. Tillie is just like every other dog I know, except that she's an artist. Yes, an artist.

Tillamook Cheddar has been exhibiting her artwork since 1999 and has racked up a resume most human New York City artists would die for. She's been shown in galleries all over the United States and Europe. She has been featured on CNN's Sunday Morning, Good Day New York, and Late Night with Conan Obrien. In 2006, F. Bowman Hastie III, Tillie's owner and "assistant", wrote a book about her life called, Portrait of the Dog as a Young Artist: Art from Scratch, By the World's Preeminent Canine Painter. And that's not all! Recently

Tillie has embarked on another project, something Hastie likes to call, 'Tillie Jazz'. In a nutshell, Tillie paints in front of an audience while a small jazz ensemble plays music. Shall we add performance artist to the list of her impressive accomplishments?

Her owner, F. Bowman Hastie III, insists he wasn't looking for a painting dog. Instead, like most people, he wanted a furry friend and fell in love with the Jack Russell Terrier breed. Who can deny a perky pup who always seems to be looking for adventure? For Mr. Hastie's thirtieth birthday he got his wish, Tillamook Cheddar, who he named after a type of Oregonian cheese. "Just having a dog alters your life dramatically because you have to take care of a living creature and then Jack Russells in particular are very demanding of your attention." Don't we know it! Jack Russell Terriers can be a deceiving breed of dog: cute on the outside, but full of trouble. They are notorious for causing a ruckus, especially with shoes, but Mr. Hastie discovered a creative technique for burning up the infamous Terrier stamina.
